I'm Derick Samonek, your guide through the intricate waters of coaching, and I'm excited to share my story, experiences, and the deep-seated passion that propels me as a coach.

My journey in coaching began with a love for the water. As a young swimmer, I discovered the profound impact a coach could have on shaping not only athletic abilities but also character and determination. Those early ripples set me on a path of curiosity and ignited a passion for the art of coaching.

Before diving into coaching, I ventured into the challenging domain of the United States Marine Corps. As a Marine Corps Sergeant, I learned the values of discipline, leadership, and unwavering commitment—attributes that seamlessly translated into my coaching philosophy.

While my Marine Corps journey instilled discipline, my academic pursuits led me into the world of design. Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and a Minor in Marketing from San Francisco State University, I discovered the harmony between creativity and strategic thinking.

The aquatic realm has been a constant thread in my life, and I've had the privilege of coaching in diverse settings. From tactical movements in the Marine Corps to strategizing water polo plays, my experiences have been as varied as the strokes in swimming. Coaching has been a dynamic canvas where I've painted victories, instilled resilience, and cultivated a sense of community.

Transitioning from a Marine Corps Sergeant to a coaching role, I found a unique synergy between military precision and the fluidity of coaching. Upholding standards, instilling discipline, and fostering resilience became the cornerstones of my coaching ethos.
